Works from the second of a series of warps dyed on Whidbey Island in April 2022. This warp was dyed mainly with gallnut, onion skin, pomegranate extract, and iron. Eight works came from this warp, the second to last piece, Whidbey Warp 2.7 was cut into several piece and become small cut works stitched into frames.
The second whig rose warp and the fifth indigo warp, 11 pieces (and counting!) came from this warp. I still have a few cut pieces from this warp. The first large scale experimentation with warp waste ends and cutting apart finished pieces.
A small indigo sketching warp using a weave structure known as “thick-and-thin.” Thirteen works came off of this warp — the first warp study in using thrums (warp waste) to find a way to use my weaving warp waste in new work instead of having to throw it away.
The third indigo warp, and the largest still to date! Five works came from this warp.
The fifth and final warp from the series dyed on Whidbey Island in April 2022. Woven from March - April of 2023, this was a narrow warp and I used it mainly to experiment with incorporating fringe along the sides of the wall hangings and to experiment with displaying the pieces in a different direction than the direction they were woven. Typically when I am weaving a wall hanging, I weave it from the top down — with this warp, I wanted to see what would happen if I woven from side to side and instead of hung the pieces from one of the selvedges.
The third warp of the Whidbey Warp series. Two similarly-sized warp chains were combined to make this warp. Woven in November 2022, it was a time during which I needed a more meditative study on the loom and as a result the works that came off this warp were each a study in simple geometric shapes.
Woven in February 2021, this was an undyed 20/2 cotton warp that incorporated some dyed indigo wefts, warp waste, experiments with other yarns from my stash and a few other concepts including an exploding circle that I have been meaning to come back and explore one of these days.
Woven in February 2021, this was the first time I had put 20/2 cotton on the loom with an overshot. I had a large 20/2 cotton warped I had space-dyed with indigo but had no plan for what to use it for -- I wanted to try this out with a smaller, undyed warp to make sure it would work as I hoped! So each piece on this warp was an experiment -- with different thicknesses of yarns as the pattern weft, trying cotton and wool, using warp waste pieces to create texture in the ground cloth, trying to make shapes like chevrons and circles. I used three of the finished pieces from this warp to experiment with some dye techniques.
